US Firms Spend 89% of Open-Model Budget in China
A Menlo Ventures survey of buyers controlling $4 billion finds Chinese open-weight models dominating enterprise spend.
Menlo Ventures published its 2026 State of Enterprise AI report on 3 November 2026, finding that 89% of US enterprise spending on open-source models goes to Chinese developers. Moonshot AI’s Kimi takes 61% of that spend, with DeepSeek at 15% and Zhipu at 11%. The survey covered roughly 400 US enterprise AI decision-makers controlling more than $4 billion in combined spending.
