AI Coding Tools Get Absorbed
OpenAI and Meta each bought into a different route to the developer, consolidating the tooling layer of AI coding.
OpenAI acquired Pierre, a developer-tools company, to fold code storage into its Codex platform, and Meta acquired Conductor, whose application lets developers run multiple AI coding agents in parallel. The two deals were announced in the same week, and represent distinct strategies: OpenAI builds Codex into a broader platform anchored on repositories, while Meta buys parallel multi-agent execution. Conductor’s cloud service is reported to close on 20 November 2026.
