China Raises FX Deposit Reserve Ratio by Two Points
China’s central bank said on Wednesday, 4 November that it will raise the foreign-exchange deposit reserve requirement ratio by two percentage points, effective 15 November. The eleven days of notice give institutions room to adjust positions before the change bites. The instrument raises the cost of holding dollar deposits onshore, which is a currency-management lever rather than a broad tightening signal.
