Douyin Purges AI Marketing Accounts
A month-long sweep removed over a million videos and penalised half a million accounts for industrial-scale abuse of generative tools.
Douyin disclosed on 28 October 2026 that it had removed 1.135 million violating short videos and penalised 507,000 accounts over the preceding month under its account-health scoring rules, while directing 302,000 accounts into rule-training exams. The platform identified five abuse patterns, including AI-generated engagement bait, AI impersonation of public figures for sales, and templated fabricated content. It said some accounts were run by organised training operations selling paid courses on producing such content at scale.
