AI Memory Costs Cut Switch 2 Sales 41%
Nintendo sold 2.67 million Switch 2 units in the September quarter, down 41% year on year, with net profit down 29% to 73.5 billion yen, according to results reported on 5 November. The president attributed part of the pressure to AI-driven DRAM shortages and the resulting price increases, estimating about 100 billion yen of additional cost, roughly $600 million, while holding the full-year target at 16.5 million units. It is the first quantified consumer-side bill for memory being pulled into AI infrastructure.
