SpaceX and Qualcomm Will Build US 5G Ground Gear

SpaceX and Qualcomm said on Wednesday, 4 November that they will build terrestrial 5G equipment for Starlink’s mobile service in the United States. A satellite operator entering ground radio is not a product extension but a move into a regulated market, where spectrum — owned by neither party — is the scarce input. Carriers will respond on roaming and fees, and a satellite service now needs terrestrial approvals it did not need before.
